Avoid hazards and look tidy at the same time with GaffGun™
Anyone in band will be used to the age old problem of “cable management”. This could be the solution for you.
On a typical, small to medium sized live band stage there can be more than 50 individual cables in use, from instrument and mic leads, to speaker cables, lighting, effects units, PA systems and peripherals. Cables get everywhere and it’s only the most tidy and safety conscious of bands who go to extensive efforts keep cables neatly tucked out of the way of sight and hazard.
No matter how tidy you are though some cables need to leave the stage area to connect to outlying pieces of equipment like mixing desks and lighting, causing potential trip hazards.
Secure cables down quickly and easily
This nifty little gadget could be your answer. Meet GaffGun™. An ingenious device that threads gaffer tape directly over your cable in a straight and neat line using a method not too dissimilar to the way workman paint lines on the road.
It can take anything from 2-5 mins to secure a few meters of cable in a straight line in a neat and tidy fashion. Take a look at the video to see how quickly it can be done with GaffGun™.
Mind you, it’s not a freebie by any means. One of these tools will set you back $199 (about £125), so certainly more than a roll of gaffer, but maybe saving 97% of your time in securing cables might be worth that cost.
The manufacturers say:
The GaffGun™ is the single greatest advancement in gaffer’s tape since the tape was invented. Saving over 90% of the time to lay gaffer’s tape over cables, it simplifies your job while saving time, money and your back. Using patent-pending CoreLok™ technology, you can use any type or size of GaffGun™ tape on the same device. Cables don’t even have to be straight – the GaffGun™ straightens and centers your cable(s) and then lays tape on them.
One thing to note though is that GaffGun™ is designed to work best with the company’s own gaffer tape products, and these start an eye-watering $12 (£8). Given a roll of gaffer can be as low as £3 then this could be an issue. However GaffGun™ can also take 3rd party gaffer tape, although this may reduce the effectiveness of the cable centring technology.
GaffGun™ is available to pre-order at the moment at www.gaffgun.com.

Halloween themed Parties – Book the perfect live entertainment
Halloween is getting bigger and bigger each year as the UK continues to throw Halloween parties each October complete with lavish costumes, decorations and entertainment. In the last 10 years Halloween in the UK has grown from a £12m to a £300m+ industry, some saying that it’s in part down to the popularity of movie phenomena such as Harry Potter and Twilight. It is no longer a just a children’s activity or something they do over in the States, these days private Halloween themed parties are designed for young and old alike and provide many with the perfect excuse to get dressed up. When I speak to prospective clients about their requirements, most end up choosing to book us, or any live band, because they love live music and want that buzz, interaction and atmosphere at their event that only a live act can create.
Many clients tell us that they have always been live music fans and knew from the early stages of their event planning that they wanted a live band to complete their night. It is also common, in my experience, to discover that recorded music has not factored into the entertainment planning. I’m always pleased to help here because despite having a live band, you always need recorded music for the time periods prior to, between and after the band’s live sets. Read more
As the hirer of a live cover band it is very likely that your wedding or function venue will ask you for your act’s PAT certificates. For many this request causes the raise of an eyebrow and a follow up of… “what is that?”. We’ll try to give you a quick overview of what PAT testing is and what you need to know about it. Read more
!daft! Corporate Function Band
On Wednesday 9th April 2014 we had a wonderful day, and night, at Celtic Manor Resort with the folks of Panasonic to play for the FKOM corporate function. Most of our bookings and events take place at the weekend, this was a break from that tradition with this performance taking place on a Wednesday night. Over the years we have performed for some of the world’s largest blue-chip organisations including Panasonic, Deloitte, Fujitsu, Aston Martin, Goldmann Sachs, the BBC, British Gas and many more. This was in fact the third time we were performing for Panasonic. Read more
For most people the point of being in a cover band is so you can take your talents to local live music stages for the enjoyment of others, and of course yourselves. There would be little point being in a band who only rehearsed, so let’s assume that booking gigs is one of, if not the, most important activity for a cover band to undertake. Read more
There are some songs that rightly or wrongly have stood the test of time and feature heavily today in most cover band’s kit bag of tunes. They may not see the lights of the stage at every gig but secretly we know ’em. And you know we know ’em. In fact it’s almost a dead cert that they’ll make an appearance at a handful of gigs each year, in some cases almost every gig. They are great for weddings and parties and generally aiding the vocal get together of a large audience. Are they the coolest songs in the world? Probably not. Are they the most technically challenging and engaging to play? Not really. But here is the !daft! take on 10 songs every rock/pop party cover band should know and expect to play, if not for their own, then at least for the audience’s enjoyment. Which after all is slightly more important. Read more
Ever heard the term “sound limiter”? Our wedding and party clients often ask us what one is and that’s only IF they have been told that their venue has one, or been knowledgeable enough to ask. Checking whether your wedding venue has a sound limiter is something you should do early in the planning process, you will be investing months organising your perfect day and spending thousands of pounds making sure every tiny detail is taken care of… but have you ensured that these electro-jobsworths aren’t sat there ready to cause unexpected havoc at your big day? It was great audience participation and loved every minute you were on. I can see why you have such a massive following from your regulars.
Graeme, I can’t thank you enough for saving the day at the Music Festival with Bill Wyman. Daft, as always were absolutely brilliant and I look forward to booking you again soon!
daft performed at our wedding reception in St Albans and were simply awesome. The set was superb and Greame’s interaction with the guests was excellent.
!daft! were outstanding and such great fun. They made the night a huge amount of fun.
We had the absolute pleasure of Daft! perform at my wife’s 40th party last weekend. From the beginning of our dealings with Graeme which started 3 months ago, he has been a wealth of great advice, professional throughout, flexible and amenable to our every need (and we had many).
We booked !daft! for the Slough Christmas lights switch on. Their professionalism and friendly nature made them a pleasure to work with.
You were wonderful! You remind me of Robbie Williams!
We have hired Daft for two very different events and they went down an absolute storm at both!!
Right from the start Graeme was helpful and his pre-wedding dialogue leading up to our big day was tip top, he was always on the end of the phone to allay any of our concerns.
You guy’s were absolutely great! You must come and play for us!
What an amazing night! Once again these guys rocked the crowd and had them begging for more! They just ooze energy and charisma!!
A HUGE thank you for last night! Daft were totally AWESOME and stole the show!
From the minute I spoke to Graeme I knew we were in safe hands. Graeme was easy to work with and worked with all the requests that we asked for our evening. Then came the actual event….. The band were absolutely superb! Our guests could not stop raving about how fantastic the band played, and how they made the evening go with a real bang.
Yet another successful Christmas Party for Hightown thanks to Graeme and his team. They did not fail to deliver and judging by my inbox the next morning I will have no choice but to book them for 2013. Well done Guys and thank you for making my job a little easier.
