!daft! Newsletter - June/July/August 2010![]() Berkshire's Most Rockin' Cover Band! www.daftonline.co.uk
June/July/August 2010 Hello and Welcome to the !daft! Newsletter for June and July, er, August 2010 It's been so busy lately both personally and with the band, that the newsletters a wee bit delayed. Apologies for that! What an amazing summer it's proving to be though. We're gonna spread some sunshine over the recent happenings and upcoming goodies with !daft! for you now. Al Fest 2010 Firstly a big thank you to all of you who came to and enjoyed Al Fest on Sunday 4th February. It was a remarkable day with six superb bands playing including !daft!, it ran like clockwork and I thank Linda Jagger for allowing me to be part of the management team. Special thanks also to Doug and Annie our stage and sound team who provided all the PA equipment and managed it all with consummate professionalism, really was a great job. There's much talk of doing it again sometime so we'll be sure to let you know if that's the case. Thanks to all of our friends and family who came along too, you really made it a cracking day. You can see pics from Al Fest courtesy of photographer George Riddell here http://www.facebook.com/pages/MyWorldMyEyescouk/142760941090The donations and contributions are still being counted and sorted but needless to say we expect to have made a significant amount for Diabetes UK and hope that the whole day was a fitting tribute to Al McWilliam. This massive party we did on the 10th! The following week we then played this huuuuge party that a good friend of ours puts on every couple of years in Silchester. We estimate around 800 people showed up all bringing their own booze which soon enough is put in to the communal bath tub for drunkards to help themselves to as well as a selection of casked local real ales, 7 "hog" style roasts, a mechanical bull, bungee run and 3 live bands on a humongous stage! This event surpassed all of our expectations not least because of the seriously fabulous crowd. It was like a match made in musical heaven. Being the first time we've played we didn't know what to expect but with any luck we'll be back there and will ensure all !daft! friends are invited too.Our 1000th Facebook Liker! We were delighted this week to recieve our 1000th Facebook liker, the cool girl being Holly Abbott. We will send Holly a !daft! tshirt to mark this milestone and thank her, and everyone, for her support. Keep it up guys! The "final" Rising Sun gig, 26th June 2010 Another tremendous turnout for our last gig at the Rising Sun, Slough, thank you so much to all who came along, we estimate over 300 people turned up and it was truly an incredible night with !daft! playing a record breaking 5 hour set of 50 songs! Rather humorously though we were tickled to hear form Julian on our arrival that night that a one week stay of execution for the pub had suddenly materialised and that there would in fact be one more weekend of live music. Accordingly our good friends From The Ashes played the final gig there the following Saturday. This caused much gleeful handrubbing and back patting on FTA's behalf so we would like to now officially recognise them as the band that played "the last gig at the Rising Sun, Slough"!! Well done boys!!! (btw... it was never a competition!!! ;o)) In all seriousness From The Ashes are a great fun band and you should catch them if you can, their website is http://www.lemonrock.com/fromtheashesWhats Next? If you're free we're waiting for you at:
IMPORTANT UPDATE - !daft! Rising Sun, Slough gig - 26th June
It has been confirmed to us today that sadly our gig on the 26th June 2010 will be the last guaranteed live music gig at the Rising Sun, ever.
After the 26th June we are advised that no further live music will take place at this legendary venue and in the following weeks the venue will close its doors for good. The Rising Sun, Slough has been a very special venue for us, we've played hundreds of gigs there over more than 12 years and we cannot begin to say how much we will miss Julian and Trudie and each member of staff we have had the pleasure of working with there, both past and present. Needless to say we are going to make this gig something extra special and something to remember. We are extending our set significantly and rushing in new tracks as well as bringing out some of the material we haven’t done in a while. We'll play everything we know. There will be a treat for Julian and Trudie in there as well. On behalf of !daft!, thank you to everyone who has supported us at the sun over the past decade or more and more importantly thank you to Julian, Trudie, Teresa and all the sun staff at the sun who have created and managed such a wonderful venue. We, and the wider music scene, will miss you immensely. Please join us on the 26th one last time at the sun for what will be a truly fantastic evening, we promise. Regards, Graeme :o( http://www.daftonline.co.uk Gig invite - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=125112347520753&ref=mf Announcement - Gig Cancellations![]() Important Announcement Gig Cancellations Dear friends, Please note that due to circumstances beyond our control there are 2 upcoming gigs that have been cancelled: Friday 25th June 2010 - Smokey Joes Roadhouse, Maidenhead (band unavailiabilty) + Friday 9th July 2010 - Finnegans Wake, Ealing (venue sold, all gigs cancelled) We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause. Deadline to register as attending is 5pm on the day of the gig. Adam's No Longer A Virgin! Or so he says haha. But no, in fact he's now completed a couple of proper !daft! gigs complete with all our friends and very enthusiastic O'Neill's and Smokey's crowds, and he did really great! Seems whatever we throw at him he just plays, which is kind of annoying, so next week we're starting Rock-hoven which is a one man recital on guitar of Beethoven's greatest hits. Yeah, greatest hits, I'm sure he must have had one at some stage, his record label really missed a trick if not!! So we're now full steam ahead and in great shape for the rest of the year. Once again, big thanks and well done to Adam. I'm hoping some of his mates will come to the Old Ticket Hall this Saturday for some good heckling though. FREE Gig Alerts by SMS If you would you like to receive free alerts via text message for our gigs text "GIGS DAFT" to 82085. You will be sent an alert when we book a gig and then 4 days before the event, totally free of charge. You can unsubscribe any time by sending "STOP GIGS" to 82085. You will be charged your standard network rate to send the subscribe and unsubscribe message but that, my friends, is it! A very useful service and a perfect way to keep up to date. Old Ticket Hall Gig - Saturday 6th March It's been just over a year since we last had chance to play here so we're looking forward to a good fun night this weekend. Invite is looking healthy and some great names on there already! Some we haven't seen for yonks, so that's a result!
