March 2010

Hello and Welcome to the !daft! Newsletter for March 2010!
Spring is in the air in perfect time for our campaign on the local music scene. Yes, we're back having kicked off our 2010 schedule with a crackin' Smokey Joes's, Maidenhead last Saturday. Below is a bit of latest news and info for your perusal!

Merchan-nice!
We are delighted to now have !daft! merchandise fully available to you via out brand new Store on our website! Please do take a look and order a tasty t shirt or any of the other bits and bobs we have available. We're totally open to suggestion to if there's anything in particular you would like, or even existing stuff in different colours. We have a secure online purchasing system via PayPal so rest assured you are safe to purchase online and we can post items or bring them direct to gigs for you, whichever you prefer!

I have noted some orders already for black g-stings and ladies strappy top things so we're working on that and I'll hope to have them soon for you. Got to replace my hoodie that got nicked as well. Yes, I'm still going on about it!!!!!!

Lastly, can I also say a massive thanks to James and Dee who modelled the items for us, you were both great sports and did fab job! And it was great fun doing the shoot with you! So thank you very much!!

A Merchan-nice Offer!
Going forward, anyone who registers as "Attending" one of our gigs on Facebook will be entitled to 20% discount off their total order when they make a purchase at the gig on the night. This is a thank you from us for coming and supporting us! Just come and see me, our sound crew or anyone managing the gear, give them your name and we will discount the purchase for you*. Done! :o)

* Offer is only for the attendee themselves. If the item is not available at the gig we will note your order and ship it to you within a few days. Deadline to register as attending is 5pm on the day of the gig.

Adam's No Longer A Virgin!
Or so he says haha. But no, in fact he's now completed a couple of proper !daft! gigs complete with all our friends and very enthusiastic O'Neill's and Smokey's crowds, and he did really great! Seems whatever we throw at him he just plays, which is kind of annoying, so next week we're starting Rock-hoven which is a one man recital on guitar of Beethoven's greatest hits. Yeah, greatest hits, I'm sure he must have had one at some stage, his record label really missed a trick if not!! So we're now full steam ahead and in great shape for the rest of the year. Once again, big thanks and well done to Adam. I'm hoping some of his mates will come to the Old Ticket Hall this Saturday for some good heckling though.

Jan/Feb 2010

Hello and Welcome to the !daft! Newsletter for Jan and Feb 2010!
Is it too late to wish you a happy new year?? Probably! None the less we hope you've had a crackin' start to 2010, for us it's been relaxed gig pace due to the sheer amount of other work we have on our plates! Here's a few updates with what's been going on the past few weeks.

Welcome Adam!
We always planned to make Jan and Feb quiet months for us due simply to the crazy workload of the last few months of 2009. In addition to that we knew we had to spend some quality time with our new guitarist Adam Harris to help him get trained up and comfortable in his new role.

You'll be pleased to know we have had an absolutely superb start with Adam who in the past few weeks has learned and mastered practically the entire !daft! set. Even the Quedly! (That's Queen Medley to the unitiated!) and we could not be happier or more thankful to Adam for all the hard work he's put in. We are really looking forward to showing him off at the upcoming gigs and I'd encourage you all to pop down to meet him. Great work Adam!

!daft! Merchandise
The Tshirts, Hoodies and G Strings are now available for you and will be featured on our website within the next couple of weeks. We have very cool tshirts available in black or/and white, black hoodies and white G's all featuring the latest !daft! logos, both front and back! (Yes, I know I'm no model!!! haha!)
  • Tshirts - £10
  • Hoodies - £20 (very warm & comfy I might add)
  • Sexy G's - £5
We will also do a discount on multiple purchases, just ask :o)

Please email me at graeme@daftonline.co.uk if you would like me to reserve you anything as stock is limited, we can post or deliver directly to you at the next gig. In the coming weeks the items will be available to buy directly via our website.

December 2009

Click here for New Years Eve '09 Gig details!

Hello and welcome to the final !daft! Newsletter of 2009.
It's been an astonishing year for us, we've had an incredible amount of fun, met some great new friends and enjoyed over 50 gigs with you all. We genuinely thank you for your continued support of !daft! and we hope to see much more of you in 2010! We've got lots of new material in the planning not to mention line up changes and new venues, so don't go anywhere, stick with us and we'll ensure you are well looked after :o)

Sorry for the slightly long mail, but lots to share!!

Pharewell Phil!!
As many of you are aware our guitarist Phil is sadly leaving !daft! after the NYE 2009 gig. Phil joined us in 2004 and has been an incredible contributor to the band ever since. He is a remarkable guitarist, great singer and great friend, we simply cannot thank him enough for all the hard work and fun times, we're very, very sorry to see him go. Phil isn't leaving live music for good though, you'll be able to find him regularly on the local circuit fulfilling the odd dep gig or playing in his duo "Donut" with Middlesex's No.1 cool dude, Matt Tombs, so keep an eye out for them both!

Phil, from all the lads you are "abandoning" in !daft! (wink wink ;oD lol) THANK YOU for everything mate, we'll miss ya but wish you all the best for whatever you do in the future. We'll see you off in style on NYE :o)

The New Chapter
As soon as Phil let us know he was planning to leave we began the search for a replacement. We met numerous guys and had literally dozens of applicants, at one stage we had 13 guitarists shortlisted! But one guy stood out for us so without further ado I would like to introduce you to Adam Harris!

Adam is a local lad based just up the road in Maidenhead, he's 29 and been playing guitar for over 15 years. We had a good few sessions together but soon decided he was the man to take on the role, he has a fantastic ability, great voice and is an all round top bloke! Up until very recently he was playing in a band with this year's X Factor 4th place runner up Danyl Johnson and at other times can also be found on various stages and in the band pit for theatre productions.

We are delighted to have Adam on board and offer a warm welcome to the band. Adam's first public outing with us is scheduled to be in late February 2010. More details to follow but for now please join us in welcoming him on board!

Logos and Merchandise
Last month we updated our logos, we hope you like them! From Monday 14th Dec, and for the first time, we will have exclusive !daft! tshirts available for you to buy at gigs or via our website for just £10, all featuring the new logos! As a gesture back to our most loyal friends all our Facebook group officers will be offered a 10% discount on their first purchase. We will have pics and details following shortly!

Special Thanks for 2009!
I can't close the year off without effusively thanking a few people that have really made a difference to us, for loyal support, help and great times (in no particular order): Doug and Annie our incredible sound and stage team, OB for his lugging about, drinking fun and Romeo role at the gigs!! ;o), Angela from the Scotch Bar, Kim Byne who has been to literally every gig we've done for the last 2 years! (aren't you bored yet? ;o)), Tania & Adam, Darren & Ellie, Gary, Tina, Frank, Kelly, Mickey, Caroline, Emily, Simon, the incredible Nicky & Karen and all their crew, George Riddell for his amazing photos, Jim and Rob, Tim and the WINGS '09 teams, all The Rising Sun staff, Lee and Dean from Smokeys, Steve & Cat, Eileen and Hollie, Kate, Hadyn Wood, Allison, Dave, Paul & Caesar and all the Freak Jammers. We really appreciate all you have done for us!

For now folks there's just:
We're taking a break for a couple of months now with our first gig of 2010 being towards the end of February. It's been a wonderfully busy year but we have some work to do now with new tracks and to help Adam, so for now you have the Bier Keller on the 19th December and New Years Eve at Smokeys.

To all our friends, clients and fellow bands,

Cheers,

October 2009

Hello and Welcome to the !daft! Newsletter for October 2009.

Don't know about you but I can smell Christmas in the air, in fact I saw my first Christmas TV ad just yesterday, it was for the most festive and religious of companies, DFS, who were announcing yet another sale. But before we even ready the sellotape and wrapping paper we have Halloween and some sad news to cover off so lets dive straight in.

Raw Deal!
Some of you may be aware that sadly Phil Raw, one of our guitarists, has handed his notice into the band :o( We are all incredibly gutted but it's very amicable and we totally understand his position. There's no one reason just a handful of things that means that looking to the future Phil would not be able to commit any more but needless to say we cannot thank Phil enough for the 5 years of sheer fun and great times we have had, we will really really miss him. There will be more to come on this later, we still have a few weeks grace so will share more in the coming weeks.

Just to clarify !daft! intends to cover this departure and has no intention of disbanding.

Er... we have a vacancy!
So given the news above it would presumably be no surprise to say that we are recruiting!

Do you know an amazing guitarist suitable for !daft!?

I am more than happy to take recommendations and hear ideas so if YOU are interested in this role or you know someone that might be please contact me at graeme@daftonline.co.uk.

Scotch Bar, Nov 27th 2009 - CANCELLED
We were due one last gig with the Scotch Bar on Fri Nov 27th however there have been some issues come up in the diary and we needed to move the date but we were unable to find a mutually free slot at such short notice. Therefore we reluctantly have to cancel this gig with the Scotch but would like to thank them very much for 3 wonderful gigs this year, we really enjoyed playing there in 2009 and would always be happy to come back again!

Halloween just 10 days away!
PLEASE TELL ME YOU HAVE SORTED YOUR COSTUMES!!! The invite is on Faceboook HERE!

!daft! Halloweens are great fun, you can dress up in whatever you want, you can enjoy a night of great party rock and special funky Halloween tunes AND you can win prizes! This year we have TWO FREE VIP PASSES to Smokey Joes Roadhouse, Maidenhead up for grabs for the best, most sinfully dresssed people!

With FREE entry up till 10pm all your fiendish friends await you at Smokeys, from 9pm on Halloween night, Saturday 31st October. Do come along, we don't bite! Unless you ask nicely ;o)

I'll give you the remainder of October through to Nov:

  • Sat 31 Oct - Smokey Joe's Roadhouse, Maidenhead
  • Sat 7 Nov - O'Neill's, High Wycombe
  • Sat 14 Nov - Rising Sun, Slough

!daft! Newsletter - September 2009

Berkshire's Most Rockin' Cover Band!

September 2009

Hello and Welcome to the !daft! Newsletter for September 2009.
It's been a really funny couple of months gig wise, we've done virtually nothing!! Mainly because of our bass player Nick being away on business in India for 3 weeks and then having the nerve to take an additional weeks holiday in the Maldives!!! If you ever come to a gig just continually shout "Brack" at him, he likes it, honest!!!! :o) But he's home now and we are feeling rusty and achy to get back out and have a gig and a few drinks! So what's new? See below for more!

Scotch THIS Friday, the 18th!
The third instalment of exclusive gigs at this excellent Windsor town centre venue occurs THIS FRIDAY NIGHT the 18th September and it's shaping up to be the best one yet. As I write this around 75 people are confirmed on the invite and we all know this means 2-3 times that when you factor in friends and the groups people tend to be in on nights out. So get there early! REMEMBER - WE START AT 9.30pm and finish at 11pm on the dot! There are discounts, drinks offers and even a whole new cocktail being mixed for !daft! friends so take a look at the invite and we'll see you there!

Invite here >>> http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=126983583907

The Horns, Watford - At last!!!
After a loooong time of trying and waiting I am delighted to announce we have now secured some dates with this extremely highly regarded live music venue in Watford. The Horns is a musical institution in its own right and is known for one thing only, ultimate quality - from big name acts to local and national bands and artists. We will be sure to share these dates with you as we publish the 2010 gig diary but it will be early in the new year! Let me say now how much we will value your support at this venue too. Take a look here www.thehornswatford.co.uk for more info, and thanks to The Horns for having us, we can't wait!
Halloweeeeeeeen!! Smokey Joes - 31st October 2009
Yes, yes, it's next month and I'm saying now because we will all need plenty of time to get those costumes, make up and fake blood prepared! Last year's was really fantastic, great fun and so many fab looking outfits, so lets raise the bar this year! The band will of course be in full regalia and we are working on our Halloween set of treacherous tunes! We will also have the fantastic George Riddell in attendance to take photographs which will all be available to you within 48 hours of the gig. Smokey Joe's is the perfect, intimate, late night, VIP setting for such a fiendish frolic and we're also working on some very special prizes for you!! Get thinking about it and see you in Oct!!

Happy Birthday to meeeee!
Well, not quite, but just a wee little heads up that on Thursday 24th September it's my birthday (Graeme that is, and I'm 32!!) and I will be delighted to see as many of you that can make it for a gig at Noctors, Maidenhead on Saturday 26th Sept. I plan to ensure I give a sober, unhindered performance ;o) Yeah, right. It will be a really great laugh that gig so pencil it in and come celebrate with me/us!! Yay!

Although filled with cold and bad throat I will do my best to see you at:
  • Fri 18th Sep - Scotch Bar, Windsor
  • Fri 25th Sep - O'Neill's, High Wycombe
  • Sat 26th Sep - Noctor's, Maidenhead
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Cheers,

Graeme
